white glove red hand

IMG_2224

Dear Management,

I better pass the cleaning check tomorrow, because I would hate to put my hands through this again. On the plus side, my fridge looks totally awesome.

Update: I passed!

  1. White glove is what they call the intense end-of-term cleaning checks, the red hand is just the result of exposing it to water and mild cleaning solutions. I've tried wearing rubber gloves before though and those seem to irritate my skin just as much for some reason.

  2. Gaaah! That's awful! We should get you some Method cleaning products--they tend to be pretty effective without being quite so harsh on the skin (or the lungs). Seriously, though... did that come from windex wipes?!

  3. Yah, it's from windex wipes. Looks even worse today, I'll break out the superglue soon. My hands get like that just from washing dishes with my ultra gentle natural dishsoap, so I think it's pretty unavoidable. I love being me.

  4. That looks painful. I wouldn't recommend superglue for a wide area thing like that; it's good for clean, sharp-edged cuts, but not for larger areas -- too inflexible and unbreathable. There's another kind of skin coating liquid called New-Skin that might work to protect those lesions. My roommate used to have some. You should be able to get it at any fair-sized grocery/drugstore/pharmacy.

Another idea: have you tried powderless nitrile gloves? A lot of people are allergic to latex, but nitrile is fine for nearly everyone. Worth a try if you haven't.

I'm sorry, but glad you passed the cleaning check :-).

  5. I only put superglue on the cracks that open the day after, so it's not really a wide area.

I've tried non-latex gloves, but I'm not sure what material they were made of. I'll keep an eye out for powderless nitrile.

  6. I have a bunch of nitrile exam gloves, which I think is what Benj is suggesting. I'll try to remember to bring you some to try.
